The main focus of the teaching and learning activities for the children under five will be on developing the welsh language. The children will follow specific themes with all the activities relating directly to the theme and each activity leading on to reading, writing and mathematics.
Nursery:
Reception:
The children, again at this stage, are taught through the medium of Welsh following the guidelines of the Desirable Outcomes. The main emphasis is learning through play weaving the development of language, mathematical, physical, creative, social and personal skills as well as knowledge and understanding of the world into the varied activities. A broad curriculum is provided through these experiences
Key Stage 1 (5-7 year old children)
The main foundations of learning are set through the medium of Welsh at this stage. The emphasis will be on developing the essential skills, namely communication, literacy and numeracy. By providing a rich and extensive curriculum through an integrated approach, we aim to develop the children's interests as well as recognising their level of maturity. These years are important, when children learn how to observe, listen, respond and develop not only as individuals, but also as caring members of our community.
Key Stage 2 (7-11 year old children)
Essential skills such as communication, literacy and numeracy will continue to be the focal point of the curriculum. However, as their understanding of the different disciplines improves, more time will be ear-marked for science and other foundation subjects. English is introduced in year 3.
The children are encouraged to develop self-confidence, independence while learning and advanced skills in a variety of situations.
Cultural and aesthetic experiences play an important part in the school curriculum. Through music, art, physical education and drama the children will learn to express their individual talents and interests. They will have opportunities to gain recognition of their success as individuals and as a member of a group or team. Each pupil is encouraged and supported to reach the highest possible standards within his / her ability. To this end the curriculum must be varied and balanced, reflecting the school?s priorities and providing the necessary experiences.
